Breed Story
“Born in the lace-making districts of Nottingham, adopted by Parisian bohemians, and now reigning as America's most popular dog — the Frenchie has always known exactly where to be.”
The Origin
The French Bulldog originated in 19th century England as a miniature version of the English Bulldog, popular among lace workers in Nottingham. When the Industrial Revolution displaced these workers to France, their small bulldogs came with them.
In Paris, the breed was embraced by bohemian café culture and quickly became a symbol of Parisian chic. Artists, writers, and members of the demi-monde kept Frenchies as companions, cementing their reputation as dogs of taste and discernment.
The Personality
French Bulldogs are the most adaptable dogs in the world — equally at home in a Manhattan apartment or a countryside estate. They need minimal exercise, maximum affection, and consistent access to someone who will listen to their grunts.
Frenchies are social, clownish, and deeply invested in human attention. They don't bark much, but they communicate constantly through snorts, grunts, and the kind of eye contact that makes you question your life choices.
